Jean leads the boys in song 1940s

Buck & Florence Hard's daughter, Jean was one of Birch Rock's only female campers ever. She always seemed to have a smile on her face and was often seen playing the piano and singing camp songs with the kids. She also helped out teaching swimming and was basically the Waterfront Director. Jean was raised at Birch Rock and on the camp's traditions. She was at camp every summer from 1930-1950. Jean's last summer was 1950, after that the demands and expenses of graduate school led her in new directions.

Jean's early exploits created the Seal and Whale awards. Swimming across the Lake and back had always been around but Jean was the first to swim the length (Seal). She was also the first to swim a Whale with Pat Brewster and Pete Rounds.
