A namespace is like a category but it is much broader. Every page on Birchrockopedia has a namespace which you can see in the first tab at the top of the page. This page's namespace is Help:. Namespaces help separate articles so you can search for them more easily. For instance, normal articles about Birch Rock are in the default main namespace. All other pages like the special pages and help pages are not in the main namespace so you need to specify if you want to search for them. To make a page in a certain namespace make the name have the namespace and a colon behind it like this Category:Swimming.
