The line shows the path of a duck

A duck is swimming the shortest distance across the lake, from the swimming docks to the other side. Its total distance is about 0.4 miles. It is done during a camper's swimming period and usually only takes 20-40 minutes. Often ducks are done two at a time, with one camper swimming to the far side of the lake with the other riding in the row boat. At the other side the first swimmer gets into the boat and the second jumps in to swim back to camp. After the camper has done his duck he will be given a round of applause at the next meal. At the end of his summer he will also receive the duck badge to put on his Birch Rock banner.
