Often people think that the "ra" parts are actually "rock". This is incorrect. Anyway, if they were "rock" then the cheer would be saying Birch Rock Rock Rock Rock... and that would not make sense.

The Birch Rock cheer is a way the camp can honer people for accomplishing a hard task. It is best done by the entire camp shouting at the top of their voices. It is most commonly used to recognise a campers long distance swim.
