It is the tallest mountain in the northeast at 6,288 feet and it is the most prominent mountain in the whole eastern United States. The fastest gust of wind on the earth's surface was recorded at the peak of Mt. Washington on April 12, 1934 at 231 miles per hour.
Darby Field claimed to have been the first settler to climb the mountain in the year 1642. The oldest hiking path in the United States, the Crawford path, was blazed up the mountain in 1819 as a bridal path and has been used ever since. In the mid 19th century
