The path of a Duck across Lake McWain

A Duck is the shortest long distance swim. It consists of swimming across the lake, from the swimming docks to the other side or going the opposite direction. The total length of a Duck is about half a mile. Ducks are done during a camper's swimming period and one usually only takes 20-40 minutes. Often ducks are done two at a time, with one camper swimming to the far side of the lake and the other riding in the row boat and then they switch at the other side. After the camper has done his Duck he will be given a round of applause at the next meal. At the end of his summer he will also receive the duck badge to put on his Birch Rock banner.
