Chuck Hatcher and Brian Roskow as Shower Barons 1994

Who are these crazy men the parents see when they come down the hill early on Visiting Day? Why is there loud music and costumed staff wandering the lodge area? Every Sunday morning the Head Counselor will announce at the Flagpole who the Shower Barons will be that day. Usually there is some sort of cheer of excitement from the kids as they excitedly hear who's going to get to act wacky and entertain them. The Head Counselor will usually select his Baron combinations very carefully.

The staff members chosen will meet and quickly discuss and idea sometime after breakfast then they will costume up and prepare the shower room area. Loud Music is a must! And there is always a password spoken to the weigh in person. This password is given to the child only after they've been weighed. Then, with the whisper of a password, they are brought into the shower area where loud music and entertainment happens. The staff have always been very creative with their themes. One of the most popular themes was the Spa Service, where the staff would serve tea and play classical music while drying the campers towels in the dryer to warm them. There was also an alien ship theme where with the help of black lights, the boys felt like there were entering a space ship.

The music for the Shower Barons is special and almost always repeated. Here's the primary Shower Baron selection: Blues Brothers Briefcase Full of Blues, Beach Boys Greatest Hits, Animal House Soundtrack and sometimes Bob Marley Legend. There have been other selections played but the first three mentioned were the original three from when the Shower Barons started.
