The Baxter is the first nature badge. It was named after Percival P. Baxter, the governor of Maine from 1921-1925 who singlehandedly donated most of the land of Baxter State Park to the state of Maine. Baxter State Park is the home of [[Mount Katahdin]], Maine's highest peak.
