Josh Church and Mike Mattson originally performed this skit in the early '90s. It was an immediate hit! The two dressed as geeks and strolled out to a couple rocking chairs and read the Eye Book by Theo LeSieg, a book they had grabbed from the learning to read shelf of the camp's library. Josh and Mike each spoke through the nose for the entire skit and giggled and joked about the book's artwork (Dr. Seuss art), showing it to the audience. It became a classic and was performed by others for a number of summers.
Josh and Mike actually planned the skit minutes before Campfire. They ran to the Library grabbed a Seuss book, grabbed some chairs and off to the stage. They did adjust their appearence to be believable geeks. The skit was given a name at the end of the summer when Mike Appicelli left a couple t-shirts for "the Avid Readers". The name stuck!
